A national contest that recognizes excellence in college student-produced television, radio and online media.
The CMA Pinnacle College Broadcast & Web Tech Awards will be presented at the 92nd Annual ACP/CMA National College Media Convention in New Orleans
The contest is open to student work produced during the 2012-13 academic year for any college radio or television station, including Internet or closed circuit outlets, and any college media Web site.
The deadline to submit entries is June 1, 2013.
CONTEST RULES
-Each entry must have been produced by students actively enrolled at a college or university
-Each entry must have been produced between July 1, 2012 and June 1, 2013
-Entries are limited. Each media outlet at a college or university may submit only one entry per category
-Entries are free to any student media outlet that has an active member of College Media Association as an adviser. Student media outlets without an active CMA member adviser must pay a $50 fee per entry form (includes all 18 categories)
-All entires will be submitted electronically via the online entry form. All entries must be submitted as links to online content. SoundCloud, MixCloud, and Podomatic are examples of free audio hosts; YouTube, Vimeo, and Blip are examples of free video hosts; or entrants may link to existing media on student media site.
-The Pinnacle Awards are judged by leading national journalists and media professionals.

CONTEST CATEGORIES

1. Best Newscast
Entries should be no longer than five minutes and may be a segment of a longer newscast. Judging based upon writing, news judgment & objectivity in reporting, production quality, and innovative use of audio/video in newscasting.
2. Best Sportscast
Entries should be no longer than five minutes and may be a segment of a longer sportscast. Judging based upon writing, production quality, sports journalism judgment & objectivity in reporting, and innovative use of audio/video in sportscasting.
3. Best Entertainment Program
Entries should be no longer than 10 minutes and may be a segment of a longer program. Judging based upon overall entertainment value, production quality, and innovative use of audio/video in the production.
4. Best Promo, Station ID, or PSA
Entries should be no longer than 60 seconds. Judging based upon the clarity of message, production quality, and innovative use of audio/video in the production.
5. Best Viral Video
Entries should be no longer than five minutes. Judging based upon the production quality, use of social media to promote the video, and innovative use of audio/video in the production. Number of views the video has received will be considered, but will not be the sole metric by which the category is judged.
6. Station of the Year
Stations should submit one news clip no longer than five minutes, one entertainment clip no longer than five minutes, and one station manager's choice clip no longer than five minutes which are reflective of the best work at the station during 2011-2012 academic year. Entries will be judged based upon production quality, service to the campus audience, and innovative use of audio/video in the production. Station of the Year entries may be accompanied by a statement from the station manager, no more than 1,000 words, on the overall merits of the station, including innovative use of technology at the station, and why they deserve the CMA Pinnacle Award.

13. Breaking News
Recognizes excellence in digital coverage throughout a 72-hour period of an unplanned breaking-news event or development. Judges will weigh evidence of exceptional journalism under deadline pressure within the 72-hour period following the original event. They will also weigh clear presentation through user interface, interactivity, use of social tools and creative use of the medium. An entry will consist of a single piece, series or package on the same event or development.
14. Multimedia Feature Presentation
Recognizes excellence in telling a story to an online audience using multimedia techniques, including interactive graphics, Flash, photography, audio and video. In addition to the quality of the journalism and creative use of the medium, emphasis will be placed on the artful blending of multiple media into a single user interface.
15. Interactive Advertising and Media
This category recognizes outstanding Interactive Advertising & Media. Entries in this category may include media buys and placements in two different media types, one of which must be online; creative use of a website or associated online tools in a media/marketing strategy; or innovative use of online social media within an advertising or marketing campaign.
16. Mobile Apps / Plug-ins
Best use of a mobile app or website plug-in. This category will evaluate the use or creation of a mobile app or website plug-in. These may be commercially available (paid or free) apps or plug-ins, however special consideration will be given to student created apps/plug-ins.
17. Audio Slideshow
Recognizes excellence in combining photographic images with audio to create an enhanced story. Judges will look for strong imagery and strong audio storytelling that integrate well together. Audio must include elements of the story and not just be a musical soundtrack.
18. Best Web Presence
Recognizes excellence in overall design, content delivery, multimedia, special projects, cross-platform integration and interactivity for a student media Web site.
